I can't launch my task manager and I have the same problem. some of my desktop icons disappear when i leave my pc on and i have to go a do something else. click "FILE" on task manager.. If you've used any periferals that change your monitor settings, you may want to check to make sure you've gone back to the default monitor setting when you were finished.
